Butters Balloons & Blog Woes

A very pregnant French Bulldog

Butters is a very pregnant French Bulldog

Ms. Butters (aka Bella, aka BPIS Ch Bullmarket Absolut Harvest Moon) has two weeks to go in her pregnancy, and she already looks like she’s swallowed a watermelon.

At this rate, she’s going to outstrip her mom, Penelope, in the “biggest pregnant Frenchie belly” contest.

More after the cut, including updates about blog changes.

Dad of this litter is AKC/JKC Ch Bullmarket Versace, from semen frozen over a dozen years ago. The wonders of modern technology….

Still 2 Weeks to Go

By the way, did you notice the cat in the background of that photo? That’s one of Paula’s Abyssinians – I can’t recall her name, but she lost one of her eyes as a very young kitten. You’d think that would make her skittish of the dogs, but not s0. Instead, she absolutely loves the dogs, each and every one of them.  She never misses  a chance to rub up against them and give them head butts.

Paula thinks that it’s because she believes she actually is a dog. I think it’s just that she’s a cat who is a dog lover, a trait I’ve noticed in quite a few Abys. They really do seem to be good cats for people who already have dogs in the house.

Here’s a pic of her giving Butters some head rubs. Butters seems to love her right back, which isn’t surprising, since Butters loves everyone.

Blog Woes

You might have noticed that the blog has been incredibly slow to load lately. I have no idea what’s going on – Powweb, my hosting company is being just as remarkably unsupportive as they always are. So, I’m going two things – I’m going back to a bare bones, no fuss blog layout, which will hopefully speed loading, and I’m once again going to work on migrating the blog over to a new host.

Let me know if the stripped down version of the blog seems any faster to you, and wish me luck with the migration. Lesson to others: make really, really sure that you’re with a webhost you can stand for the long haul if you plan to run a high traffic blog, because moving it is possibly the least fun web related thing you’re ever going to have to do in your life.

I thought it was just me on the loading thing. Don’t know if you’ve already made the changes but this one was terribly slow for me – took two tries.
I suppose if you bred Butters via frozen semen you prolly paid a lot of money for that and are not feeling like giving any of the pups away. That’s ok. I can wait until Butters is too fat for you to feed anymore and you can mail me her.

Oh, hi Butters! You’re looking very prosperous & shiny.

I thought I had dibs on Butters? Weezie and Linus need something to chase around the yard.

I don’t find it’s loading any faster, either, and this is a pretty stripped down theme. So, it’s my server, which means it’s Powweb, which means I’m screwed and I am definitely going to have to move my blog. Yay, I didn’t really want to go anyplace on my holidays anyways.

Butters says that she’s pretty happy where she is, especially now that she’s being fed three meals a day of raw food. Pickle, on the other hand, currently hates me and is willing to ship herself Fedex if it means getting the hell out of here.

    She’s mad because:
intact Frenchie girl + heat cycle = no walks or classes or fun of any kind at all.

    Also, girlie diapers, which suck.

Hey Carol, Butters is huge and beautiful. I can’t wait to see her babies.

As for hosting, I recommend Hostgator. They have a starter reseller plan that is very good for web designer people like us. 🙂 And they have never failed me or any clients of mine, not once. I’ve been a client for 3+ years now.

I’ll trade you hosting (Well, tell me what your traffic is) for letting me pick your brain and do a couple of interviews with you for my new small dog blog project. 🙂 Lord knows we have the server space. 🙂 *pets k9* (Yes, the server is named k9. Our others are tardis, martha, donna, rose, and sarahjane.)

PS: We’re Dailydata.net if you wanna look at stuff. We’re little but we have great service and uptime and things run very fast in general.

    Hey Cait –

I’m probably just going to move the blog over to Dreamhost, where all of my other sites but this one ‘live’. This is my last hold out with Powweb – I would have moved it ages ago, but I have so many databases that it’s all just more than a little daunting. Now that I’ve gotten rid of Gallery and a my BB boards, there’s just the blog to move (other than all five hundred or so html pages – and my traffic is huge, esp. when you combine the blog and the site. About a gig, last I checked).

But, I’ll help gratis with interviews and anything else you need – just ask 🙂

Oh my!! How many puppies do you think are in there? That’s one biiiiig belly. Butters doesn’t look overly impressed with her situation..

Blog is still slow-loading for me… this one and Rufflyspeaking are the two slowest-loading blogs on my roll, actually. Dunno if there’s similar reasons or what’s up with it.

Have I mentioned how MUCH it pisses me off when my IT support company, who charges almost as much per hour as we do, screws up, wastes my time on fixes that don’t work until I find that THEY caused the problem and I fix it my SELF?

They should be very very glad that they are a long way away in rush hour traffic at that moment.
