Bullmarket French Bulldog Breeders

Pug Summer

You know how I’m constantly lecturing about how Frenchies don’t/can’t swim?

From now on, I’m just going to post this video – listen to it once, and the song will be embedded in your brain forever. That should take care of the pesky ‘no swimming Pugs or Frenchies’ issue.

OMG. I will probably have watched this 50 times before the sun goes down. This is perhaps the finest PSA for Pug care that I’ve seen. motherofgod that’s funny

No, sorry – the sheer visual shock of the speedo clad ghostly white dude is an absolutely essential element in cementing this into your brain.

From now on, you see Pug, you think “Skinny long haired white dude in a speedo”.

I work at a dog swimming center, and we do have a pug who swims there. He can swim with or without flotation devices. His people have a boat, so they wanted to make sure water didn’t panic him. He always wears a float jacket on the boat.

We also have a bulldog who swims for fitness, always with flotation. I don’t think we’ve had any Frenchies, though, and I certainly recommend flotation for untried dogs, especially front-heavy breeds.

This is not where I work, but this pool was started for their (English) bulldogs: http://www.k9aquatics.com/aboutus.htm

I want to play this for all those lab owners at the dog park that laugh at my frenchie as he sits at the edge of the creek and looks sad. It ain’t easy watching everyone cool down while you risk sinking to the bottom!

This video went viral among Pug two years ago! The pasty white dude in the speedo is only half the charm – Richard swimming valiantly in his owner’s arms is the other half. Pugs swim just fine. It’s when you put them in the water that trouble happens. Do not put your swimming Pug or Frenchie in water.

Too funny. I always have to explain to folks at the beach or river that my frenchies sink like bowling balls. They are only comfortable wading.

PS here are a couple of Puglet videos. He’s great fun, and he can swim:

in reference to the link to k9aquatics.com That is where i am taking my French Bulldog, Watson for swim therapy for a spin injury. his video has been posted on YouTube of him swimming in Sandy’s pool. The pool was built for her now deceased bulldog, Brodie. anyone can see how the pool was built on Sandy’s website.

It’a fact that Frenchies are not natural swimmers and should never be allowed near open water, but they can be taught to swim. I had one who was actually prescribed swimming for a shoulder injury. We went to a special dogs’ pool run by a GSD owner to exercise her trials dogs. The Frenchie started off in a full harness on a long leash, & ended up jumping in spontaneously and swimming unaided (the pool is only 4 feet deep in case help was needed) I still have pictures of her in the pool.

I have owned to Pugs in addition to my Frenchies….one whom i still have….Nate, the pug who is no longer with us actually swam….not like Michael Phelps, but he would wade out into the lake from a beach at our summer camp in Canada and swim behind us as we waded in the water. My other Pug is just like this one in the video….he has zero swimming talent and just paddles as you hold him over the water….even with a life jacket, he’s a water disaster……and what’s with the Speedo?????? Disturbing!!!!!!!! LOL..
