How’s the weather where you are? Here in Canada, we’re experiencing record setting high temperatures – scorching days where spending more than a few moments outside are enough to leave you light headed and on the verge of heat stroke.
Imagine, in this heat, leaving a litter of puppies outside, day after day. Imagine if one of those puppies is smaller than her siblings, with a rear end that doesn’t let her move as easily. Imagine deciding that, instead of getting her the veterinary care she needs, you’ll just ‘have her put down’.
Imagine being Rayne.
Following the lead of Toronto and of Richmond BC, Mississauga Ontario has also banned the sale of what they refer to as “privately bred puppies”. This leaves the door open to allow pet stores to offer adoption events, and to feature adoptable puppies from local shelters and rescue groups.
When the Lab cross died in the Vaughn Mills Parking lot after Woofstock, what I found most disturbing (aside from the entire situation) were the reports that as many as sixteen people were standing around outside of the car, wondering what to do.
Seemed pretty simple to me – smash the damn window out with a brick.
Sometimes, inciting a little civil disobedience is the only way to get the message across. Since the courts don’t seem to do anything to the people who let their dogs die in hot cars, I assume they’ll extend the same leniency to those of us who pledge to liberate them.
